The Green Bay Packers enter the upcoming season with an unproven core of young wide receivers. Allen Lazard has been okay, but Sammy Watkins' addition wasn't impressive, especially when you need to replace Davante Adams.

So, even though the Packers addressed that need in the NFL Draft, it's clear that the early returns haven't been as good as expected, and the season is just around the corner.

Rodgers Isn't Happy

Aaron Rodgers isn't happy with his young teammates' effort. He recently called them out for the constant drops and route-running mistakes and predicted they wouldn't last long if the league if they keep this up:

"The young guys, especially young receivers, we've got to be way more consistent," Rodgers said after practice. "A lot of drops, a lot of bad route decisions, running the wrong route. We've got to get better in that area. You keep dropping the ball, you're not going to be out there. It's going to be the most reliable guys that are out there.

He Called Them Out Twice

He also blamed them for Jordan Love's three-pick performance in the preseason opener vs. the San Francisco 49ers, so, clearly, he's not satisfied with the hand he's been given.

“I felt really bad for Jordan the other night because, you know, we have a couple of total mental busts for picks,” Rodgers said. “We had a drop for a pick. Two guys running who knows what on the third one. He shouldn’t have thrown the ball there probably, but some of that is veteran stuff, making veteran mistakes.”

What's In It For The Steelers?

With that in mind, the Packers could turn their attention to Diontae Johnson. The Pittsburgh Steelers just signed him to a two-year contract extension, but they didn't seem too happy about paying him in the first place.

So, Green Bay could snatch him away for a future third-round pick and make the most of a dynamic wideout who might lose ground in Mike Tomlin's pecking order soon.

Packers Need To Make Some Moves

The Packers could also dig deep in the free agency market with veteran options like T.Y. Hilton, Odell Beckham Jr, Emmanuel Sanders, Cole Beasley, or even Will Fuller.

Whatever the case, they can't stay put when the season is four weeks away, and their first-string offense continues to struggle with drops, miscommunication, and poor route-running. They must address this before it's too late.
